Based on the objectives and activity laid down in the founding act and the statute, The Mokranjac Foundation realized the fourth competition for a new choral composition on 2017. The main objective of the competition was to encourage, reward and promote artistic creation in the field of choral composition as a part of the heritage of Mokranjac's tradition. The task of the competition, it was specified that the composition should be written for choir a capella relying on the Serbian folklore for up to 6 minutes.
The competition, which according to the manner and way of work was anonymous, received seven papers under the code. The works were judged by jury: Dejan Despic, composer, president of the jury, Dimitrije Golemovic, composer and ethnomusicologist, Miloje Nikolic, Vladimir Milic and Dragana Jovanovic, conductors.
Based on the analysis and comparison of compositions submitted for the competition were selected and awarded works, which, in the opinion of the jury, the most appropriate requirements of the competition.
According to the jury, none of the submitted works fully met the criteria for the first prize. However, in order to give impetus to domestic creativity, the jury considered that three works should be awarded on this occasion. That is why the second and two third prizes have been.
The second prize of RSD 50.000 won Aleksandar S. Vujic with composition Zapevaj kolo for mixed choir. The third prize in the amount of 25.000 dinars was shared by Zdenko Radeta for the composition Dimitrijo, sine Mitre for mixed choir, and Miodrag Govedarica for the composition Ninje otpuscajesi for mixed choir. The first prize was not awarded. The funds for the awards were provided by SOKOJ.
The Mokranjac Foundation will allow sound recording and the publication of the prize-winning composition.
